Jeremiah 14:14 Meaning Then Yahweh Said to Me

Then Yahweh said to me, “The prophets prophesy lies in my name. I didn’t send them. I didn’t command them. I didn’t speak to them. They prophesy to you a lying vision, divination, and a thing of nothing, and the deceit of their own heart.

What does Jeremiah 14:14 mean?

The prophets who speak lies are the voices inside a person that claim divine authority while rising only from the lower mind. Every day the reasoning brain manufactures a picture of what is coming, dressed in certainty, and calls it truth.

Esoteric

The prophets who speak lies are the voices inside a person that claim divine authority while rising only from the lower mind. Every day the reasoning brain manufactures a picture of what is coming, dressed in certainty, and calls it truth. That picture is a false vision because it does not descend from the higher center, the still awareness at the crown, but bubbles up from the churn of memory and fear. Divination and a thing of nought name the same manufacture: the mind reading its own anxieties back to itself and mistaking the echo for revelation.

The deceit of the heart is the emotional nature convincing the whole body that its cravings are commands from above. What was never sent, never spoken from the true source, still parades in the name of the highest. The work is learning which inner voice actually carries light from the crown and which only imitates its accent.

Prophets: the inner voices of the lower reasoning mind that claim divine authority while rising only from memory and fear Heart: the emotional nature whose cravings disguise themselves as commands descending from above

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Clinical Psychology

The most dangerous liar speaks in the name of what is highest. He borrows the authority of the sacred to sell his own wishes, and the crowd, hungry for comfort, cannot tell the counterfeit from the coin. A false prophet invents no outside darkness. He projects the deceit of his own heart onto the heavens and calls it a vision.

The deepest corruption wears the robes of the good. When a man tells the people what they want to hear and stamps it with God's name, he poisons the very well they drink from to survive. Lies wrapped in the sacred are worse than open lies, because they leave nowhere left to turn.

Live Jeremiah 14:14 today

  1. When your brain hands you a confident forecast today, about a text that has not come back or a result you are waiting on, say to yourself quietly: this is a prediction, not information. Then go do the next real thing in front of you.
  2. In a conversation where you feel sure you already know what the other person means, ask them instead. Let their answer, not your inner commentary, be what you respond to.
  3. Under pressure, when the voice inside gets loud and absolute about what is going to happen, put one hand flat on the desk and feel it for a few seconds. Fear speaks in certainties, and the certainty is the tell.

Which of today's certainties did I actually receive, and which did I manufacture?

Buddhism · Dhammapada

The mind is the maker of everything it then suffers from. What you take for the world is largely the mind's own output, returned to you looking like news.

Stoicism · Epictetus

We are not disturbed by events but by the pronouncements we attach to them. The pronouncement arrives with such confidence that we forget we wrote it.

Zen

The instruction is to doubt the voice that explains your experience to you, even when it speaks in a holy accent. Treat every certain thought as a guest, not the host.
