What does Jeremiah 2:2 mean?

The higher mind recalls a person to the early ardor of the soul, before the outer life had thickened and grown crowded. Jerusalem is the center of consciousness, the seat of vision within, and it is being reminded of a first devotion, the kindness of youth when the soul followed spirit through the empty places without hesitation.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The higher mind recalls a person to the early ardor of the soul, before the outer life had thickened and grown crowded. Jerusalem is the center of consciousness, the seat of vision within, and it is being reminded of a first devotion, the kindness of youth when the soul followed spirit through the empty places without hesitation. The wilderness and the unsown land are the state before habits and worldly cultivation set in, a bare inner ground where the whole attention was turned toward the higher and nothing else was yet planted. That first love was the soul married to spirit before the accumulations of the outer world came between them.

Spirit remembers when a person's attention was undivided and freshly given, and calls the consciousness back to that early, uncluttered devotion.

Jerusalem: the center of consciousness in a person, the seat of vision addressed and called to remember The wilderness: the bare inner state before habits and worldly cultivation set in, where attention was wholly turned toward spirit The land that was not sown: the unplanted ground of the soul before the accumulations of outer life took root

AWARENESS

Indian Guru

Love is alive in the wilderness and dies in the settled land. In the beginning there was no map and no guarantee of a harvest, and precisely because nothing was secured, everything was felt. Then came the fields, the temple, the arrangements, and the same relationship continued as habit with the fire gone out of it.

This is the story of every seeker who once trembled and now performs. Whatever hardens into routine has already ended; only the repetition goes on. The unsown land becomes available again the moment security is loosened, and insecurity is the very air in which love breathes.

  1. Think back to when something you now do out of habit was still new and exciting to you, a faith, a craft, a person. Spend five minutes in that early feeling instead of your current to-do list around it.
  2. With someone you have known a long time, ask them something you would have asked in the first month of knowing them. Then actually listen the way you did then.
  3. When your day is packed and your attention is sliced into twenty pieces, clear one patch on purpose: phone face down, screen closed, nothing planted in that ten minutes. Let it be empty ground again.

What did I love simply, before I got good at it and busy around it?

Beginner's mind is the whole thing. The first days hold a freshness that expertise quietly loses, and the practice is to keep coming back empty-handed.

Tao Te Ching 48

The way forward is subtraction, not addition. Keep taking away what you have piled on and the original clarity is still underneath.

The longing itself was the love, back when you had nothing and wanted only this. Comfort is what crowds out that ache, and the ache was the connection.
