CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Clinical Psychology

The lie does not begin on the tongue. It begins in the heart, and the man who speaks it has usually deceived himself first. He prophesies from the deceit of his own heart, mistaking his appetites for revelation and his preferences for wisdom.

Here sits the quiet catastrophe. A person can build an entire voice, an entire following, an entire life on a falsehood he no longer recognizes as one. Guard the heart before the mouth. Whatever poison you allow to settle inside you will eventually come out as counsel, and other people will drink it.

Live Jeremiah 23:26 today

  1. Pick the opinion you hold most strongly and ask yourself quietly whether you believe it because it is true or because it is convenient for you. Sit with whatever answer comes.
  2. Before you give advice to a friend today, check whether you are telling them what they need or what makes you look wise. Say the first one.
  3. When you feel the pull to shade a story in your favor at work, stop at the plain version. One sentence, no spin, even if it costs you a little.

What am I telling myself right now that I have stopped checking?
