A future you hold as settled starts giving orders, and fear's orders deliver a person straight to the thing itself.

Whatever outcome a person treats as certain begins issuing instructions: which road, whose counsel to discount, what gets called safety. Sword and famine were already installed as the sure thing, and that certainty organized every decision underneath it, including the one that looked like escape.

God offered the same faculty a different object and asked them to be that sure of a promise instead of a blade. They kept the aim and changed only the address. What that costs is every ounce of planning and nerve a person has, spent on transport toward the feared thing rather than away from it.

Live Jeremiah 42:16 today

  1. Catch one thing you are treating as already decided, they will say no, this will fail, it is too late, and write the word maybe beside it. Certainty is doing more planning than you are.
  2. Say the worst case out loud to someone you trust, then ask them how likely it actually sounds. Spoken to another person, the sure thing usually shrinks.
  3. When you are about to avoid something today, the call, the appointment, the honest conversation, ask whether the avoiding is walking you toward the very thing you dread.

What have I decided is certain, and where is that certainty quietly taking me?
