Job 19:26 · World English Bible
After my skin is destroyed, then I will see God in my flesh,
Stripped of everything, a man could curse his body's ruin and clutch the skin he is losing, and that grasping at the surface is the heart's real wound. What heals it is trust that holds on past the loss, waiting rather than demanding, for the seeing he longs for still lies ahead.

SUFISM
Stripped of everything, a man could curse his body's ruin and clutch the skin he is losing, and that grasping at the surface is the heart's real wound. What heals it is trust that holds on past the loss, waiting rather than demanding, for the seeing he longs for still lies ahead.
What looks like pure destruction is where the sight will come. The flesh that fails is not the enemy of the vision but the very place it is promised, the way a spring hides in cracked ground until it opens.

What am I holding onto so tightly that I cannot see what might be waiting underneath it?
The body wears out like old clothing, and what wears it is not the thing wearing out. Krishna tells Arjuna that grief over the changing surface mistakes the garment for the one who wears it.
Zhuangzi, dying, asked why his friends would fuss over a body that was only borrowed from earth and sky for a while. He trusted the process that had carried him this far to carry him through the last of it.
Epictetus taught that the body is on loan, not owned, and that a person who understands this can watch it fail without being destroyed along with it. What is genuinely yours was never in the skin.
