Job 31:6 Meaning (let Me Be Weighed in an Even

(let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know my integrity);

What does Job 31:6 mean?

The even balance is the scale within a person where spirit is weighed against flesh and the 2 are brought to rest at equal poise. Integrity here is wholeness, the inner life neither tilted toward the body's appetites nor starved by denial but held level, so that the God within recognizes its own image undistorted.

The even balance is the scale within a person where spirit is weighed against flesh and the 2 are brought to rest at equal poise. Integrity here is wholeness, the inner life neither tilted toward the body's appetites nor starved by denial but held level, so that the God within recognizes its own image undistorted. To ask for the even balance is to stand where every thought and desire has been set on the scale and none throws the measure off, and the wholeness God knows is simply a consciousness that has come into equilibrium.

The inner forces settle into equal measure, and that settled evenness is what the divine within reads as truth.

Live Job 31:6 today

  1. Look at one thing you are overdoing today, food, scrolling, work, exercise, and one thing you are starving. Give each a small nudge toward the middle instead of swinging hard.
  2. In your next real conversation, say about as much as you listen. Not a rule, just letting the exchange come to level so the other person is actually met.
  3. When you are accused of something and part of it is fair, admit that part plainly and let the rest stand. You do not have to tip into either grovelling or defending.

Where is your life tilted right now, and which way?

The Tao is pictured as a bow being strung, taking from what bulges and giving to what is empty. Its nature is bringing things back to even.

Neither chase pleasure nor make a show of refusing it. Keep your inner state level and you will carry the same face into good weather and bad.
