Job 38:36 Meaning Who Has Put Wisdom in the Inward

Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the mind?

What does Job 38:36 mean?

There is a knowing in you that thought did not create. Beneath the restless voice in your head lies a deeper intelligence, the same that grows the body and beats the heart without effort of yours.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

There is a knowing in you that thought did not create. Beneath the restless voice in your head lies a deeper intelligence, the same that grows the body and beats the heart without effort of yours. You did not put it there. It was present before the mind learned to name things.

When you become still and stop listening only to your thinking, this quiet knowing rises on its own. Understanding is not the accumulation of more thoughts. It arrives when you grow quiet enough to feel the intelligence that is already alive within you.

Live Job 38:36 today

  1. On your commute, leave the podcast and the music off for ten minutes. Do not try to think anything useful. Let whatever has been quietly sorting itself out in you come up on its own.
  2. When a friend asks your advice, resist the first clever answer and stay quiet two seconds longer than feels comfortable. What comes after that pause is usually truer than what you almost said.
  3. Facing a decision you have been running in circles over, close the laptop and the tabs and sit with it without arguing. The body often knows a yes or a no before the mind finishes building its case.

What have you already known for a while, underneath all the thinking about it?

Tao Te Ching 16

Return to stillness and a knowing comes back to you that no amount of effort could have produced. The water settles and only then does it show you anything.

Zen · Dogen

Studying the self is not adding thoughts about yourself. It is letting the self you built fall quiet so what was always awake can show itself.

There is a knower in you older than your learning. Silence is not the absence of speech, it is the language that one speaks in.
