John 1:10 Meaning He Was in the World

He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world didn’t recognize him.

What does John 1:10 mean?

The mind that dreams a world is present in every corner of it, for the world is nothing but a picture the mind projected outward from its own thought. Yet the dreamer walks through the dream unrecognized, mistaking its own creation for a place that stands apart and threatens from outside.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The mind that dreams a world is present in every corner of it, for the world is nothing but a picture the mind projected outward from its own thought. Yet the dreamer walks through the dream unrecognized, mistaking its own creation for a place that stands apart and threatens from outside. What looks like an alien world is the mind's own making that it has forgotten making.

Not to know him is to look at everything one has projected and see only strangers and dangers, never the familiar self behind the scene. The mind that made the world and then feared it has only to remember whose thought this is. When it recognizes the maker, the world grows gentle, because it was never anything but the mind seen in a mirror.

World: the picture the mind projects outward from its own thought, mistaken for an outside place that threatens the one who made it.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The maker of the world is your own imagination, present in every scene yet unrecognized. Here God means man, the one who expresses himself, and the whole outer world is the record of his inner acts poured back into view. Every event you meet was first an assumption within, though the person who assumed it has long forgotten doing so and now treats the result as something done to him.

That forgetting is the meaning of not knowing him. The power that framed your circumstances lives as your own awareness, and it goes unnamed because it feels far too close and too ordinary to be the cause. A man walks through a world shaped by his own imagining and calls it fate. What you persistently hold within yourself is quietly building the world you then say you never made.

Live John 1:10 today

  1. When the day feels like it is against you, consider that your mood arrived first and the evidence came second. Change nothing outside yet, just hold that possibility.
  2. With a person who always irritates you, look for the trait of yours you are seeing in them. That recognition usually takes most of the heat out.
  3. In the middle of a hard email thread, pause before replying and ask what you are bringing to this. The thread will still be there, and it will read differently.

Where am I treating my own projection as a hostile world that showed up uninvited?

Hinduism · Upanishads

You are that. The world you look at and the one looking are not two different substances staring each other down.

Buddhism · Yogacara

What we take for an outside world is shaped by the mind that perceives it. We meet our own patterns and call them circumstances.

Taoism · Chuang Tzu

Chuang Tzu dreamed he was a butterfly, then woke unsure which was the dreamer. The line between the maker and the made is not where we assume.
