John 1:13 Meaning Who Were Born Not of Blood

who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

What does John 1:13 mean?

The true self was never made by the body or by anything the body wants. Blood and flesh and human willing belong to the story of separation, the account of a self that begins and ends inside its fear, but the mind's reality has a different source entirely.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The true self was never made by the body or by anything the body wants. Blood and flesh and human willing belong to the story of separation, the account of a self that begins and ends inside its fear, but the mind's reality has a different source entirely. It was not born in the dream at all. It was created by love and shares the changelessness of what created it.

So to remember what one truly is, the mind must stop looking to the flesh for its origin. Nothing that decays could be the ground of what cannot decay. The self that matters was given by God and therefore cannot be undone by anything the world does, because the world had no hand in making it.

Blood: the mind's belief that it originates in the body, the story of a self that begins and ends in fear. Flesh: the dream of bodily existence, mistaken for the source of a life it could never actually give.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

To be born of God is not to trade one opinion of yourself for another. A conception is carried within and brought forth. Desire enters awareness the way seed enters a womb, and awareness is Mary. Nothing in the bloodline does this, and no straining of the will does it. The life comes from the one source that fathers all things, which is your own imagination.

God became humanity and rises from it as every man discovers he is the Father. The child conceived in feeling is felt until it grows natural, until it seems to have always been so, and then it is delivered into the world. A thing held that long stops being a wish and becomes a birth. What is born of God was never argued into being; it was conceived, carried, and brought to term inside you.

Live John 1:13 today

  1. Sometime today, when you catch yourself judging your own face, your weight, your tiredness in a photo, pause and let it be information about a body, not a verdict on you. You are the one looking, not the thing in the picture.
  2. With someone close to you, try to see past the surface you usually react to, the voice, the mood, the age, the mess. Speak to the person who was there before all of that and will still be there after.
  3. When a bad moment hits, a harsh email, a number on a screen, a result you dreaded, say quietly to yourself that this can shake the day but it cannot touch what you actually are. Then answer the email anyway.

If nothing the world made can be the real ground of you, what would you stop defending today?

The same truth in other traditions

Katha Upanishad

The self within is unborn and does not die; it did not come into being when the body did, and it does not end when the body ends. What the body gave you was never your beginning.

Zen

The old question put to students is to show the face you had before your parents were born. It points at something in you that no birth produced and no death can take.

Tao Te Ching 25

The source was there before heaven and earth, quiet and unchanging, and everything that comes and goes comes out of it. What is made of parts wears out. What the source gave does not.
