John 12:14 · World English Bible
Jesus, having found a young donkey, sat on it. As it is written,
The awakened self within takes command of the lower animal nature and rides it toward the holy city. The young ass is the untrained bodily force, still fresh, not yet broken to any master, and sitting upon it is the higher consciousness claiming the body as its own mount.

ESOTERIC
The awakened self within takes command of the lower animal nature and rides it toward the holy city. The young ass is the untrained bodily force, still fresh, not yet broken to any master, and sitting upon it is the higher consciousness claiming the body as its own mount. What was a burden-bearing creature left to wander now carries the divine center exactly where it means to go.
That the ass is young matters: the flesh is taken while still supple enough to be mastered, before it hardens into habit. The rider does not destroy the animal but sits upon it, so the body is not abolished but governed, made to carry the awakened self toward the inner Jerusalem.
Young ass: the untrained bodily nature in a person, fresh and unbroken, ready to be mastered Holy city: the inner Jerusalem, the center of peace a person moves toward once the body is governed
Esoteric lens
What part of your body has been wandering without a rider?
The body is the chariot, the senses are the horses, and the mind holds the reins. A driver who stays awake arrives, a driver who dozes is dragged wherever the horses want.
A wild elephant is worth more once it is trained than any wild one in the forest. The strength is not the problem, the lack of a rider is.
The body will have its appetites. Your work is not to hate them but to hold the reins, so the animal carries you where reason meant to go.
