What does John 12:21 mean?

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The longing to see the Christ within moves first through the circuit of the brain before it reaches the light itself. Galilee is that circuit, the loop of electrical energy running the head, and the seekers approach at the point where the current gathers. To desire to see is the whole hunger of a person turned inward, wanting the emerald commander who governs from the pineal to be looked upon with the single eye. The approach is made through Philip, the faculty that loves and draws near, the part that carries the wish toward the seat of light.

John names his own hometown wrong, and the slip is left standing on purpose. A flaw in the letter opens the deeper reading. What looks like error points inward, to the light seen only with the one eye.

Live John 12:21 today

  1. Sit for two minutes today with your eyes closed and do not try to achieve anything. Just let yourself want to understand, and let that wanting be enough.
  2. If someone comes to you today half asking for something real, be the easy door. Answer them warmly, introduce them, carry the request forward instead of leaving them standing there.
  3. In the middle of a stressful stretch, admit the small honest sentence: I would like to see this clearly. Saying it, even silently in a meeting, turns your attention from the noise to the thing behind it.

What have you been wanting to see, and who could you ask?

Sufism · Rumi

What you are looking for is looking for you, and the longing itself is the first sign that a path exists. The wish to see is already the beginning of seeing.

Zen

A student asked how to find the Buddha and was told to find the one who is asking. The search turns around and points back at the seeker's own head.

Bhagavad Gita

Of the many kinds of seekers, the one who simply wants to know is dear to the teacher. Wanting with your whole attention is the qualification.
