John 12:26 Meaning If Anyone Serves Me

If anyone serves me, let him follow me. Where I am, there my servant will also be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.

What does John 12:26 mean?

To follow is not to walk behind a person. It is to go where he already is, and where he is, there is presence, the aliveness of this moment that he calls simply I Am.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

To follow is not to walk behind a person. It is to go where he already is, and where he is, there is presence, the aliveness of this moment that he calls simply I Am.

So the invitation is to leave the noise of the mind and enter the same awakened state. Serve that presence by giving it your full attention, and you come to live where he lives, in the present moment. The honor spoken of is not a prize handed to you later. It is what naturally arises when you stop living as the anxious separate self, and your life begins to express the peace and dignity of Being itself.

The Christ speaking is not a man outside but the awakened awareness inside the person, and to serve and follow it is to keep attention fixed on that inner light rather than on the noise of the flesh. Where I am names a location within the body, the high seat at the crown of the head where pure consciousness resides, and the promise is that whoever raises attention there will dwell in that same elevated place. The servant is the ordinary self, the everyday personality that learns to obey the higher center; when it does, it comes to stand where the master stands. The Father who honors is the source above the crown, the origin of light that lifts and dignifies any part of the self turned toward it.

So the whole saying maps a movement of attention upward inside one head: the lower self that gives itself to the higher is drawn up to share the higher's station, and the honoring is simply the flooding of that self with the light it followed.

Servant: the ordinary everyday personality that learns to obey and follow the higher center within Father: the source of light stationed above the crown, the origin that lifts and dignifies the self turned toward it

Live John 12:26 today

  1. Do one ordinary task today with your whole attention, washing a dish, walking to the car, waiting for the kettle. No podcast, no planning the next thing.
  2. When someone talks to you today, give them your eyes and your full attention for the length of what they say. No glancing at your screen, no composing your reply while they finish.
  3. In your next meeting or busy stretch, come back to your own breathing once. Let your attention land here before you speak.

Where were you just now, while your body was in this room?

Wherever you stand, stand there completely. There is no better place waiting, and the searching itself is what keeps you out of it.

Tao Te Ching 48

The sage does less and less until nothing is forced, and then everything is done. Following the way is not effort, it is being where the way already is.

She served not for reward and not from fear, but because love itself was the whole of the gift. The serving was the honor.
