John 12:31 Meaning Now Is the Judgment of This World

Now is the judgment of this world. Now the prince of this world will be cast out.

What does John 12:31 mean?

The judgment spoken of is not condemnation but recognition. The world of fear is judged simply by being seen at last for what it is, a projection with no reality of its own, and in that seeing its ruler loses every claim.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The judgment spoken of is not condemnation but recognition. The world of fear is judged simply by being seen at last for what it is, a projection with no reality of its own, and in that seeing its ruler loses every claim. The prince of this world is the ego enthroned within the mind, and it is cast out not by force but by the withdrawal of belief that alone gave it a throne.

So the moment of judgment is the moment of release. When the mind finally looks upon fear's kingdom and knows it was never true, the whole authority of the ego collapses, for it ruled only by being believed. Nothing has to be attacked or destroyed; the tyrant falls the instant the mind stops taking it for real.

The prince of this world: the ego enthroned within the mind, the ruling fear that holds power only as long as it is believed This world: the projection of fear the mind takes for reality, judged and undone the moment it is seen through

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The world here is not the planet but the whole outer arrangement a person mistakes for reality: the senses, the appetites, the flesh calling itself the whole of life. Its prince is the ego, the self that rules from the surface and insists nothing exists but what the eyes report. The moment of judgment is the instant awareness turns inward and weighs the flesh against the spirit that has always been buried beneath it. When that inner light rises, the ruler of the surface loses its throne, cast out not to some far place but out of the seat of command inside the head.

This happens now, the word repeated, because it is never history and never a future event. It is the daily overthrow that occurs the moment a person stops taking the outer show for the truth and lets the deeper self govern from within.

World: the whole outer realm of sense and flesh a person takes for the only reality Prince of this world: the ego, the surface self that rules from the eyes and appetites and claims there is nothing beyond them

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

The prince of this world is not a devil ruling from outside. He is the dark, disowned side of ourselves, the one part we refuse to look at, so we hand it our power. Hidden, it runs us from behind, and we blame our troubles on others.

The judgment is the moment a person faces that darkness and owns it. Once seen, it can no longer rule in secret. That is how the prince is cast out. A hidden force controls you only while you cannot see it, so once you face it, you take back the power you gave away.

  1. Name the fear that has been running your week in one plain sentence, out loud if you can. Said simply, most of them get noticeably smaller.
  2. When a family member pushes the button they always push, try seeing the reaction as a habit playing itself rather than a truth about you. You can watch it rise and let it go unfed.
  3. Before a meeting you are dreading, ask yourself what exactly you believe is going to happen. Usually the dread is built on a story you have never actually examined.

What have you been treating as real simply because you have never questioned it?

Buddhism · Mara

In the old story the tempter is undone not by a fight but by being named out loud: I see you, Mara. Recognition alone strips him of his power.

Vedanta · the rope and the snake

In dim light a rope on the path looks like a snake, and the fear is real while the snake is not. No one kills the snake. Light comes, and there was never anything there.

Stoicism · Epictetus

What shakes us is not the event but the opinion we hold about it. Withdraw agreement from the opinion and the thing has no grip left.
