It is possible to look and not see, to have a life explained to you and understand nothing. When you live wholly through the thinking mind, a film covers your perception.

EGO & BEING
It is possible to look and not see, to have a life explained to you and understand nothing. When you live wholly through the thinking mind, a film covers your perception. The heart closes around its opinions and grows hard, and reality can no longer reach you.
This is not a punishment sent from outside. It is what identification with thought does. As long as you meet each moment through this screen of concepts, you cannot turn and be made whole, because seeing clearly is itself the healing. Awareness returns only when the mind grows quiet enough to let it through.

AWARENESS
Nobody blinds you. The mind hardens itself, because seeing would cost it everything it has built. A man surrounded by evidence still cannot see, not from lack of light but because seeing would end the person he has spent his life becoming. So the eyes stay busy looking, and the heart stays busy defending, and nothing gets through.
Healing waits on turning, and turning means stepping out of the mechanical circle of thought long enough for something else to be there. That something is already present, watching the whole performance of blindness. The moment the defending stops, the hardness was never a wall, only a habit held tight.
Ego v. Being lens
What are you so sure of that you have stopped looking at it?
A full cup takes nothing in. The student who arrives already knowing learns nothing, and the teaching pours onto the floor.
To know that you do not know is the beginning of knowing. To be certain is the sickness.
The mirror shows nothing while the dust is on it. The work is not getting a new mirror, it is wiping this one.
