John 12:45 Meaning He Who Sees Me Sees Him

He who sees me sees him who sent me.

What does John 12:45 mean?

To look on love truly is to look past the form and see its Source shining through it, for love has no separate existence of its own and points always to what created it. When a mind meets one who teaches only love, it is not really the person it is seeing but the innocence behind the person, and that innocence is the face of God wearing a shape the mind could bear to meet.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

To look on love truly is to look past the form and see its Source shining through it, for love has no separate existence of its own and points always to what created it. When a mind meets one who teaches only love, it is not really the person it is seeing but the innocence behind the person, and that innocence is the face of God wearing a shape the mind could bear to meet. What is seen and what sent it are one, so recognizing the messenger is already recognizing the truth.

So the eyes are never the difficulty; the interpretation is. A mind that has forgiven can look at any brother and see through him to the Love that made him, and in that seeing it looks upon its own Source as well. To see love clearly anywhere is to have found it everywhere.

Him that sent me: the Source of love, seen shining through every form that carries love faithfully.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

To see the one who speaks is to see the one who sent him, because they were never two. The awareness of being that a person carries is itself the source that put on this human form, and to recognize your own imagination as that power is to look straight at what men have called God. Nothing stands between the seer and the sender; the face turned toward you and the invisible cause behind it are a single being.

This undoes the old picture of a distant maker to be searched for. The power that shaped your world is the very imagining now looking out through your eyes. When a person finally turns and sees this, the long search ends, for what was sought was doing the seeking. You meet the sender by knowing the one sent is yourself.

Live John 12:45 today

  1. Look at one ordinary face today, a cashier, a neighbor, a driver, long enough to see an actual person with a whole life behind their eyes.
  2. In your next real conversation, listen for what the other person cares about underneath what they are saying. That is usually the part worth meeting.
  3. When someone is rude to you in traffic or a line, try assuming they are having the worst day of their month. You will be right often enough, and it costs you nothing.

Who did you look at today without really seeing?

The greeting means the deepest thing in me recognizes the deepest thing in you. You are not looking at a stranger, you are looking at one place where the same life shows up.

Sufism · Ibn Arabi

Wherever you turn, the face of the Real is there. The forms differ; what looks out through them does not.

Zen

All things are a mirror. What you meet in another, you are meeting in yourself as well.
