John 15:15 Meaning No Longer Do I Call You Servants

No longer do I call you servants, for the servant doesn’t know what his lord does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I heard from my Father, I have made known to you.

What does John 15:15 mean?

A servant obeys a will it cannot see and lives in the anxious dark of not knowing, and this is the mind under fear, which imagines a distant authority whose purposes are hidden and possibly against it. Love ends that separation by sharing everything, keeping no secret and holding nothing back, so the fearful gap between a master and his instrument closes.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

A servant obeys a will it cannot see and lives in the anxious dark of not knowing, and this is the mind under fear, which imagines a distant authority whose purposes are hidden and possibly against it. Love ends that separation by sharing everything, keeping no secret and holding nothing back, so the fearful gap between a master and his instrument closes.

What replaces obedience is friendship, which is another name for the mind that knows it is one with its Source rather than ruled by it. Nothing is withheld from a mind that has chosen love, because love has no wish to keep anything apart from itself.

Servant: the mind under fear that obeys a will it cannot see and lives in the dark of not knowing Friend: the mind that has learned it shares one purpose with its Source and stands beside it rather than beneath it Father: the Source of love from which nothing true is ever hidden

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

Duality gives way to intimacy.

The servant relationship is dualistic, master over subject. Friendship signals the collapse of that separation into shared knowing.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

A servant is one who does not yet know the Dreamer's purpose; he lives inside the play without seeing who runs it. A friend is one nearing the end of that dream, told the secret at last: that his own awareness is the cause of his world and nothing acts on him from outside. The difference between the two is not obedience but knowledge. The servant obeys conditions he thinks are laid on him; the friend knows he laid them on himself, and can lay down others.

Everything the Father knows is made known to the friend, because the Father is his own awareness of being and there is no longer anything hidden between them. He learns that the state he holds becomes the state he lives from, and that changing it changes his fortune. Knowing this, a person stops serving circumstance and begins choosing it. To be a friend is simply to know how your own consciousness makes your life.

SELF-HELP

Self-Help

What a person is told changes the moment their standing changes, and what they are told decides how they obey.

A worker kept in the dark can comply beautifully and never own one outcome, because the servant label limits what a person is trusted with, what they are trusted with sets how much of themselves they invest, and the investment decides whether the work continues when the pressure lifts.

Handing over everything heard from the Father is the transfer that makes the friend label operational rather than sentimental, because a friend who knows the purpose acts on it when no one is watching and a servant has nothing to act from. Holding on to the servant identity buys a life of correct behaviour with none of the person in it.

Live John 15:15 today

  1. When your mind starts filling in a silence with worst case stories, say plainly to yourself that you do not actually know, and stop writing the script. Most hidden agendas are things we authored ourselves.
  2. Tell one person something you would normally keep back, a worry, a mistake, a thing you want. Being known is how the gap between you closes.
  3. When a short message from your boss or a client lands with no explanation, do not read a verdict into it. Reply with a question instead of defending yourself against a sentence nobody wrote.

Where am I living in the dark of my own guessing, when I could just ask?

The teaching is that the self within you and the whole are not two. Once that is seen, there is no hidden master issuing orders from somewhere far off.

Zen

The student spends years waiting to be given the secret, then learns there was never anything withheld. Nothing was kept back; he simply had not looked.
