John 15:19 · World English Bible

John 15:19 Meaning If You Were of the World

If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

What does John 15:19 mean?

The mind that still believes in separation feels at home in the world it made and is soothed by it, for the world loves whatever agrees that fear is real. But a mind that has been drawn out of that belief no longer speaks the world's language, and so the world can no longer flatter it into staying asleep.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The mind that still believes in separation feels at home in the world it made and is soothed by it, for the world loves whatever agrees that fear is real. But a mind that has been drawn out of that belief no longer speaks the world's language, and so the world can no longer flatter it into staying asleep.

What feels like rejection is simply the loss of the ego's approval, and that loss is freedom, not exile. To be chosen out of the world is to be released from needing its comfort, and a mind no longer bribed by illusion is a mind that has begun to wake.

World: the whole system of thought built on separation, which welcomes what confirms fear and turns from what would end it

  1. Go one day without checking whether your post, your message, or your work got a reaction. What stays steady when nobody claps is actually yours.
  2. When a conversation turns to running someone down, do not join and do not lecture. Change the subject gently and let the pause sit.
  3. In the room where everyone is anxious about the deadline, do not catch it. You can take the work seriously without taking on the panic, and that gives everybody else somewhere calm to stand.

Whose approval am I still arranging my life around?

Others are bright and sure of themselves while the one on the way seems dull and adrift. He has stopped running on what the crowd feeds on, and that is not a loss.
