John 16:2 Meaning They Will Put You Out

They will put you out of the synagogues. Yes, the time comes that whoever kills you will think that he offers service to God.

What does John 16:2 mean?

Fear does its worst while convinced it is doing right, and this is the ego's deepest disguise: it attacks in the name of the very love it is defending against. A mind ruled by guilt casts out what it cannot bear and calls the casting-out holy, so that cruelty wears the mask of duty and never sees itself.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Fear does its worst while convinced it is doing right, and this is the ego's deepest disguise: it attacks in the name of the very love it is defending against. A mind ruled by guilt casts out what it cannot bear and calls the casting-out holy, so that cruelty wears the mask of duty and never sees itself.

This is why what looks like an enemy is the mind's own guilt seen in a mirror. The one who strikes believes he serves, and only a mind that stops trusting fear's certainty can tell attack from service, and refuse to mistake the two.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

Unconscious righteousness is the most dangerous form.

The deepest violence comes from ego wearing religious clothing. Conviction without awareness lets cruelty feel like duty.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The old orthodoxy in a man casts out the new understanding as though it were a threat, and does so believing itself righteous. The synagogue is the settled body of accepted belief, the reasoning that measures only by the senses. It expels the assumption that contradicts appearance, sure it defends what is holy while it destroys the one thing that could save it. Every man meets this the moment he claims a state his senses deny.

What kills the new state is not malice from without but the conviction from within that facts are final and the wish is folly. That conviction thinks it serves God. It murders the very imagining that is God awakening in the man. So the resistance a fresh assumption meets is the old certainty defending itself, honestly persuaded it is right while it puts to death the state struggling to be born.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The organized outer religion casts out the one who turns inward, and worse, it imagines that silencing the inner seeker is holy work. The synagogue is the institution of outer belief, and being put out of it is what happens to a person the moment true inward seeking begins: the crowd of external dogma has no place for it.

Those most sure they serve God become the very ones who kill the inner search, convinced their opposition is devotion. What this describes in a person is the collision between the awakening inward self and the outer religious mind that cannot bear it, so the seeker learns the way in leads away from the approving crowd.

Live John 16:2 today

  1. Find the one opinion you hold most firmly today and ask honestly what would change your mind. If nothing could, that is worth sitting with.
  2. When you are about to say something sharp because you are clearly in the right, hold it. Being right is not a permit to wound someone.
  3. In a group chat or a thread where everyone is sure about the person who got it wrong, be the one who does not pile on. Certainty in a crowd is how ordinary people do real damage.

Where is my being right costing someone else more than it is worth?

Jainism · the blind men and the elephant

Each man touches one part and is certain he knows the whole animal, and the quarrel comes from the certainty, not the touching. Being sure is not the same as seeing.

Taoism · Zhuangzi

Each side in a dispute is sure it holds the truth, and that sureness is what blinds it. Step out of the quarrel and you can finally see the whole of it.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

Nobody does wrong on purpose; they act from a view that looks right from where they stand. Teach if you can, and pity rather than hate.
