John 16:30 Meaning Now We Know That You Know All

Now we know that you know all things, and don’t need for anyone to question you. By this we believe that you came from God.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

Peak insight is not the same as rootedness.

Their certainty is fragile. Belief formed in a peak moment is still a thought-form, not yet stabilized presence.

Live John 16:30 today

  1. After a moment today when something feels clear, on a walk, in the shower, write one sentence of it down, then let the clarity go and get on with the afternoon. You are planting it, not framing it.
  2. With someone who disagrees with you, hold your position lightly enough to actually hear theirs. Being sure and being right part ways more often than we admit.
  3. When the good feeling drains out mid week and the insight seems fake, stay put anyway. The quiet underneath does not come and go with your mood about it.

Do I want the feeling of being sure, or do I want what is actually true?

The same truth in other traditions

Zen

After the great opening, sweep the floor and wash the bowls. The clarity only counts once it survives the chores.

Buddhism

A pleasant state in meditation is still a state, arising and passing like every other. Mistake it for the goal and you spend years chasing a feeling.

Tao Te Ching 76

What is rigid snaps and what is supple endures. Certainty that has to be defended is already brittle.
