Live John 16:5 today

  1. When sadness pulls everything inward today, lift your eyes and take in the room, the sky out the window, the sounds in the street. Keep the sadness and widen the view at the same time.
  2. Ask someone close to you a real question about their life, even if you are the one hurting. Letting another person in loosens the grip a little.
  3. Under stress, when your attention narrows to the one bad thing, name three ordinary things around you out loud. Attention opens, and the one bad thing goes back to being one thing.

What have I stopped seeing because one loss is taking up the whole frame?

Ask what this thing really is, strip away the story you have added, and look at the whole of which it is one small part.

Buddhism

Holding on tight is where the ache comes from. The ache is not a reason to grip harder.

Tao Te Ching

When one thing goes, room opens for what is coming. The empty space is part of how things work, not a mistake.
