John 16:8 Meaning When He Has Come

When he has come, he will convict the world about sin, about righteousness, and about judgment;

What does John 16:8 mean?

When the loving Voice is welcomed, it does not add another accusation to the pile the mind already carries. It corrects the very framework of accusation itself, showing that what the mind called sin was a mistake to be undone, what it called righteousness was innocence it never lost, and what it called judgment was a verdict it had no need to pass.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

When the loving Voice is welcomed, it does not add another accusation to the pile the mind already carries. It corrects the very framework of accusation itself, showing that what the mind called sin was a mistake to be undone, what it called righteousness was innocence it never lost, and what it called judgment was a verdict it had no need to pass.

The gentle Teacher works by exposing the illusion, not by condemning the dreamer. It turns the mind's harsh categories inside out until the whole apparatus of guilt and blame is seen as unnecessary, and the mind is freed to look on itself and the world without the wish to convict anyone at all.

Comforter: the loving Voice within the mind, the gentle Teacher that undoes the mind's framework of accusation rather than adding to it World: the outer picture the mind projects, the screen onto which its guilt is thrown so it seems to come from outside

  1. For one scroll through your feed, skip the verdict. Let each post pass without placing it in the good pile or the bad pile and feel how much effort that was costing you.
  2. When someone tells you about a mistake they made, resist both the scolding and the rush to forgive. Just say what happened and what can be done now.
  3. Catch yourself mid sentence when you start explaining why you were right in an old argument. Drop the sentence and see whether anything was actually lost.

Tao Te Ching

The sage holds no fixed mind and does not divide the world into the good and the failed. Where the measuring stops, people are set free rather than corrected.

Zen

The great way is not difficult for those who have no preferences. Make the smallest distinction between for and against and the whole thing splits apart.

Advaita Vedanta

The teacher does not give you something new. The teacher removes the mistaken idea, the way light does not fight the dark but simply ends it.
