John 19:14 Meaning Now It Was the Preparation Day

Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, at about the sixth hour. He said to the Jews, “Behold, your King!”

What does John 19:14 mean?

The sixth hour is the fullest weight of the material state, the number 6 marking the flesh and the incomplete man laboring under his own density, the point where the outer nature has done all it can and stands exposed. At this pressure the crowned self, the ruling consciousness meant to govern the whole body, is shown to the lower faculties that will not own it.

The Jews here are those inner powers that cling to law and appearance and cannot recognize their own king even as he stands before them bleeding. Passover is the crossing over, the passage of the awakened principle out of bondage in the flesh. Preparation is the whole ripening that precedes any real inner death and rebirth.

What rules a person is set in front of the very faculties that reject it, at the exact hour the body has spent its strength.

  1. At the hour of the day when you are most spent, probably late afternoon, do not reach for sugar or a scroll. Sit with the emptiness for two minutes and see what is still steady underneath the tiredness.
  2. When someone close to you is clearly running on empty, do not fix them or advise them. Just stay nearby and let them be depleted in your company without comment.
  3. In a meeting where you have run out of arguments, say plainly that you do not have more to give on this today. The honesty will hold more authority than another round of pushing.

When I have nothing left to perform with, who is actually running me?
