John 21:1 Meaning After These Things

After these things, Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias. He revealed himself this way.

What does John 21:1 mean?

Showing himself again is the awakened power appearing once more to the faculties of the mind, the disciples being the qualities within a person that can be trained and governed. The sea is the restless, unformed state of consciousness, the churning place where nothing has yet taken shape.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

Showing himself again is the awakened power appearing once more to the faculties of the mind, the disciples being the qualities within a person that can be trained and governed. The sea is the restless, unformed state of consciousness, the churning place where nothing has yet taken shape. Christ, your own sense of being alive, rises there because a new state must be brought forth exactly at that edge.

The pattern repeats, and the repeating matters. A state assumed and felt as accomplished does not announce itself once and vanish. It shows itself again and again, until conviction settles and the outer form is born. What appears at the water is no stranger from elsewhere. It is the creative power in you, made visible to your own attention the moment you stop working the problem and rest in the feeling of being.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The divine shows itself beside deep water, and the sea is God's deepest truth, the vast still depth a person reaches only when the surface of the mind goes quiet. The light returns to those who have already gathered at that shore. It does not appear in the noise of the day. It waits at the edge of the depth and reveals itself there.

The disciples are the faculties that meditate and grow still, the parts of you trained to sit at the water and watch. What shows itself is not a figure walking up a beach. It is the higher consciousness surfacing in a person the moment the mind has settled enough to hold it.

Live John 21:1 today

  1. Pick one thing you have been grinding at, and this morning stop working it for ten minutes. Put the phone face down, sit with the feeling of it already being handled, and let that be the whole of your effort.
  2. When someone in your group chat or at your desk brings up the same worry for the fifth time, do not solve it again. Say the calm thing you said last time, in the same steady voice, and let the repeating be the point.
  3. In the middle of a tense meeting or a long line that will not move, drop the problem for one breath and feel yourself as someone the day is already going well for. Then pick the problem back up if you still want it.

What have you been trying to force out of churning water that is quietly waiting for you to sit down?

Tao Te Ching

The shapeless and the nameless come first, and the ten thousand things rise out of them. What you want to see formed has to be met at the place where nothing has form yet.

Zen · Dogen

Practice is not one arrival but the same return, made again and again. Sitting down today is not repeating yesterday's effort, it is the one thing showing itself to you once more.

Bhagavad Gita 6

The mind is like water whipped by wind, and it is steadied by returning, not by force. What is sought is already the one doing the seeking, and it becomes visible when the churning quiets.
