John 21:5 Meaning Jesus Therefore Said to Them

Jesus therefore said to them, “Children, have you anything to eat?” They answered him, “No.”

What does John 21:5 mean?

The higher awareness comes to the lower faculties after a long night of fruitless effort and finds them empty-handed. The question about food asks what the striving powers of a person have managed to gather working on their own, in the dark, before the light rose, and the honest answer is nothing.

The higher awareness comes to the lower faculties after a long night of fruitless effort and finds them empty-handed. The question about food asks what the striving powers of a person have managed to gather working on their own, in the dark, before the light rose, and the honest answer is nothing. The lower self, laboring by its own strength in the night, brings up no true sustenance.

This is the plain condition of a being before the higher influence takes over. Everything the self tried to catch through its own unaided effort came to nothing, and only when the higher awareness directs the work will the empty net begin to fill.

Meat: the true inner sustenance, the nourishment the striving faculties seek to gather from the depths Children: the lower faculties of the self, the untaught powers laboring by their own strength before the light rises

Live John 21:5 today

  1. Admit one thing today that is not working, the routine, the side project, the way you are handling the mornings. Say it plainly to yourself without spinning it into progress.
  2. When someone asks how it is going and the honest answer is badly, give the honest answer. Nothing can help you while you are still reporting a catch you did not make.
  3. When you have pushed at a problem all day and it has not moved, stop pushing. Close the laptop, go for the walk, and come back ready to be told you were aiming at the wrong side.

What have you been working at all night that you have not yet admitted came up empty?

Straining adds and adds and gets nowhere. The deep work happens when the frantic doing stops and something larger is allowed to carry it.

Years of starving and forcing brought him no further than when he began. The turn came when he let the straining go and sat down.

Some things are in your power and some are not, and most exhaustion comes from pouring your strength into the second kind. Admitting you got nothing is not defeat, it is the start of seeing clearly.
