EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

Most of us hunt for life outside ourselves, in the next event, the next person, the next thing to arrive. Here a different source is named. The Father has life in himself, not borrowed from anything, and that same living stillness is placed inside the Son.

The Son is not only one man long ago. The name points to the awake awareness in each of us, the depth that does not depend on the world going well. When a person quiets the reaching mind, they find life welling up from within, needing nothing to feed it. What the Father holds in himself becomes the ground we can stand on and never lose.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The Father does not hand the Son a gift and stand apart from him. He empties his own life into that Son and awakens as him. God buried himself in you, and he cannot come fully awake until Christ is formed in you and rises. The life the Father has in himself becomes the life the Son has in himself, because they are one being finishing his own becoming.

Picture a father whose whole self passes into the child, so the child now generates from the same source. That is the inward begetting. God ceases to think of you and begins to think from you, and in that turning he is born from above inside your own skull. That turning is the second birth. The one being brought forth there, alive with the Father's own life, is who you have always been.

SUFISM

Sufism

Al-Ḥayy al-Qayyūm: The Living, the Self-Sustaining Two of the names of God, from the best known verse of the Quran. Everything else that lives got its life from somewhere and holds it on loan, like a lamp that burns only while plugged in. Once a person sees which life stands alone and which one leans, rivalry stops making sense; leaning on someone is not competing with them.

Nafas al-Raḥmān: The Breath of the Merciful Ibn Arabi's phrase for the steady outpouring that keeps everything in existence. Life passes from the source without the source losing any, the way one candle lights another and burns just as bright. Whatever is alive in a person is arriving now, it arrives again the next moment, and the giver is never poorer for it.

Faqr: Poverty The Quran tells people plainly that they are the poor ones and God alone is rich. Someone carrying something powerful inside them can claim it as self-made, or say straight out where it came from. The second answer takes the strain out, since the power works the same either way and nothing is left to defend.

Everything has two faces, one toward itself and one toward God: nothing stands on its own Al-Ghazali's line. Seen from its own side, a thing has nothing to hold it up; seen from God's side, it stands complete. A person can call the life inside them wholly their own and wholly received, and both statements hold.

Whoever knows their own self knows their Lord: the source is reached through what is already inside you A line the Sufis repeat constantly. The life in a person came from somewhere, so following it inward leads back toward its start, like tracing a river upstream to the spring. Someone who looks honestly at the life moving in them ends up looking at its source.

Live John 5:26 today

  1. Before you reach for your phone in the morning, sit still for one minute and feel that you are already here, already alive, with nothing downloaded yet.
  2. When you are with someone today, let yourself be with them without needing anything from the conversation, no approval, no good news, no fixing.
  3. In a stressful hour at work, when everything hangs on an outcome, take one slow breath and feel the part of you that is steady whether the news is good or bad.

What am I waiting to arrive before I let myself feel alive?

Tao Te Ching

The source of all things is not fed by anything outside itself. It does not strive, yet nothing is left undone, because its life rises from its own depth.

Upanishads

The Self is not something you acquire. It is the one thing already present, the light by which everything else is known, needing nothing added to it.

Look within. The spring of good is inside you, and it will keep bubbling up if you keep digging there rather than searching the world for it.
