John 5:37 Meaning The Father Himself

The Father himself, who sent me, has testified about me. You have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.

What does John 5:37 mean?

The Father who sends and bears witness is your own awareness of being. It has no voice to hear with the ears and no shape to meet with the eyes.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The Father who sends and bears witness is your own awareness of being. It has no voice to hear with the ears and no shape to meet with the eyes. The Father is never an object out there. The witness it gives is inward: the sense of I AM that underlies every assumption and confirms the state you take as your own. This awareness speaks as certainty, not sound.

You have not heard this voice or seen this form because the one seeking is the very thing sought. The Father is the awareness looking, not a figure to be looked at. To turn and recognize this is to be shown the source that was speaking all along. What a person calls God is the I AM within him, testifying to itself, never appearing as a face or a sound but as the certainty that he is.

Live John 5:37 today

  1. For one minute today, instead of looking at things, feel the awareness that is doing the looking. Nothing to see there, just the plain certainty that you are.
  2. In a conversation today, when you feel the urge to be convinced by proof, sit for a second with what you simply know. Then speak from that, calmly, without needing the other person to supply it.
  3. When a day goes badly and nothing outside is confirming you, put a hand on your chest and stay with the one thing not in question: you are here. That is the ground, not the results.

Have I been searching outside for what is already looking?

The same truth in other traditions

Kena Upanishad

You cannot see the seer or hear the hearer. The one you are looking for is the looking itself.

Zen

The eye cannot see the eye. You are searching for what is doing the searching.

Sufism · Rumi

You wander the world asking where God is, and the asking comes from the very presence you are hunting. The seeker is the thing sought.
