John 6:63 · World English Bible

John 6:63 Meaning It Is the Spirit Who Gives Life

It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.

What does John 6:63 mean?

The body can neither give life nor gain it, because it is only a figure in the dream and has no power to wake the dreamer. What quickens is the mind's own reality, which the teaching addresses directly.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The body can neither give life nor gain it, because it is only a figure in the dream and has no power to wake the dreamer. What quickens is the mind's own reality, which the teaching addresses directly. A mind that keeps looking to the flesh for meaning is asking an image to explain the one who imagines it, and comes away empty every time.

Words carrying love are not sounds in the air but a call to remember what the mind is. Received rightly, they bypass the body entirely and speak to the living truth within, which needs no flesh to be alive and was never in danger of dying.

Flesh: the body and the whole world of appearances, powerless to create or explain because it is the dream and not the dreamer. Words: the teaching of love, a call sent straight to the mind that carries the life it names.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

You can memorize a truth and still not be touched by it. The mind takes the words, files them, argues about them, and nothing in you actually changes. This is the flesh that profits nothing: not the body, but the whole apparatus of thought that turns living reality into concepts and then mistakes the concept for the thing. A word held only in the head is a dead word, however true it happens to be.

But the same words can arrive differently. When you are still enough, they pass straight through the thinking mind and awaken the aliveness underneath it, the spirit that quickens. You do not understand them so much as feel them come to life in you. That is the difference between knowing about presence and being present. The letter can be studied forever and leave you asleep. The living meaning wakes you where you sit, and in that waking you sense that you were never really the flesh at all, but the awareness in which it appears.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

Only the inner breath gives life, and the outer form on its own adds nothing to it. Spirit is the animating power within a person, and the flesh is the body taken by itself, inert until that power moves it. The words spoken are not sounds in the air but living vibrations, the very energy of consciousness carried on breath, and these are what quicken. A person who feeds only the body starves, because the body has no life of its own to give. The life is in the moving spirit, and the true words are that spirit made audible, the inner power sounding through a person and waking what is dead in him.

The spirit that quickeneth: the animating breath and power within, the only source of real life in a person The flesh: the body taken alone, inert until the inner power moves it The words that are spirit and life: living vibrations of consciousness, the inner energy sounded on the breath

Live John 6:63 today

  1. When you find yourself in the mirror today measuring your worth by what you see, let it go and ask what is actually alive in you. The surface cannot answer that question.
  2. In one conversation today, listen past the words to what the person actually means. Most of what matters never makes it into the sentence.
  3. When you scroll because you feel empty, see what you are asking the screen to give you. Pictures of lives cannot feed what is asking, and they never have.

Asking the body what you are is like asking the painting about the painter. The image cannot explain the one imagining it.
