John 7:15 Meaning The Jews Therefore Marveled

The Jews therefore marveled, saying, “How does this man know letters, having never been educated?”

What does John 7:15 mean?

Knowledge of the deep meaning of Scripture never arrives by study, and that is the whole point of the astonishment here. The book is not history to be researched; it is your own life-story told in advance, and its meaning opens from within, not from any teacher or library.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

Knowledge of the deep meaning of Scripture never arrives by study, and that is the whole point of the astonishment here. The book is not history to be researched; it is your own life-story told in advance, and its meaning opens from within, not from any teacher or library. The man who has never sat in the schools yet speaks with authority has read the pages from the inside, where they are being fulfilled in him.

The letters he was never taught stand for learning gathered from outside. What he carries instead is inner revelation, the plan unfolding as his own awareness. This is why scholarship stalls at the surface while an unlettered person may know the thing entirely. The understanding comes as your own voice speaking within, not as another's instruction. What is learned from without stays outside; what is disclosed within becomes you.

Live John 7:15 today

  1. Read something short today, a few lines, and then close the book and sit with what rose in you instead of looking up the explanation.
  2. In a conversation where someone is clearly better informed than you, say what you have actually lived through rather than what you have read. The lived part carries weight the quoted part never does.
  3. When you are stuck and about to open five tabs, stop and ask yourself what you would do if no one could tell you. Often you already know, and the tabs are a way of not deciding.

What do I know that nobody taught me?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching 48

In study you add something every day. In the deeper way you let something go every day, until you arrive at a knowing that was never assembled.

Zen

A teacher can point at the moon, but the pointing finger is not the moon. Everything handed to you from outside is a finger.

Upanishads

The truth is not reached by much learning or by a sharp mind. It shows itself to the one who turns inward and is willing to be shown.
