John 7:5 · World English Bible
For even his brothers didn’t believe in him.
The brethren are the reasoning powers and the familiar habits of mind, the near ones raised in the same house of the senses. They stand closest to the awakening imagination and are the last to trust it, because what is stirring is beyond anything the senses have reported.
From the Manifestation reading below.

MANIFESTATION
The brethren are the reasoning powers and the familiar habits of mind, the near ones raised in the same house of the senses. They stand closest to the awakening imagination and are the last to trust it, because what is stirring is beyond anything the senses have reported. The new self is not yet a fact they can point to, so they withhold their belief.
This is the ordinary condition of a person the moment his own creative power begins to rise. Reason cannot verify a state that has no outer evidence, so it doubts. The disbelief of the near ones does not stop the birth; it only marks how strange the higher truth is to the mind that lives by proof. The power in you moves whether the settled habits of thought consent or not.
