John 8:14 Meaning Jesus Answered Them

Jesus answered them, “Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you don’t know where I came from, or where I am going.

What does John 8:14 mean?

The awakened part of the mind needs no outside witness to know what it is, because it remembers its own source. It knows it came from love and returns to love, and that certainty is its own proof, needing nothing the world can add.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The awakened part of the mind needs no outside witness to know what it is, because it remembers its own source. It knows it came from love and returns to love, and that certainty is its own proof, needing nothing the world can add. The part still ruled by fear cannot follow this, for it has forgotten where it began and where it is bound.

So it measures truth by appearances that can only mislead. A mind that knows its origin in love carries a knowing the body's eyes can never supply, and it does not argue for that knowing but rests in it, at home in a truth the fearful mind has not yet remembered.

The awakened self needs no outside witness because it knows its own origin and end from within; it came from the light and returns to the light, and that inner certainty is its own proof. The knowing of whence and whither is the memory of the divine ground, the awareness that recognizes it is not the body but a current passing through it. Those who cannot tell are the faculties still bound to sense, which see only the surface man and have no sight of the source he rises from or the source he returns to. The self-witness is true because the one testifying is the very consciousness that watched itself descend into flesh and will watch itself ascend out of it.

The higher self is sure of itself because it remembers where it came from and where it is going, while the parts of a person that live by the senses see only the outer man and know neither.

  1. When the urge comes to post something that proves you were right, sit with it for a minute and see whether you still need the audience afterward.
  2. When someone sums you up wrongly, you do not have to assemble the evidence. Stay friendly, hold your own sense of yourself, and let it stand without the defense.
  3. In a review or a hard conversation at work, take the useful feedback and leave the part that was simply their mood. Both can be true at once, and you get to tell them apart.

Whose confirmation am I waiting for before I will believe something I already know?
