John 9:34 Meaning They Answered Him

They answered him, “You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?” Then they threw him out.

What does John 9:34 mean?

The mind ruled by guilt answers the one who now sees by naming him wholly born in sin, for it can only understand another as it understands itself, and it believes its own origin is guilt. To be taught by the very one it has condemned is unbearable to fear, so it refuses the lesson and expels the teacher rather than let its verdict be overturned.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The mind ruled by guilt answers the one who now sees by naming him wholly born in sin, for it can only understand another as it understands itself, and it believes its own origin is guilt. To be taught by the very one it has condemned is unbearable to fear, so it refuses the lesson and expels the teacher rather than let its verdict be overturned.

Yet being cast out is not the loss it appears. The mind that has received sight is put outside the circle that lives by condemnation, and this expulsion frees it from the company of judgment. What looks like rejection is release, for one cannot both belong to fear and see with love.

A group cannot be shown what it has already agreed not to see, and the one who looks anyway usually walks home alone. The door closing behind you may be the one that was holding you in.
