Joshua 1:13 Meaning Remember the Word Which Moses the Servant

Remember the word which Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you, saying, ‘Yahweh your God gives you rest, and will give you this land.

What does Joshua 1:13 mean?

The rest here is spoken of as something already given, not something still to be earned by more striving. The mind is always postponing peace, telling you it will come when the next goal is reached, the next land taken.

Ego v. Being

The rest here is spoken of as something already given, not something still to be earned by more striving. The mind is always postponing peace, telling you it will come when the next goal is reached, the next land taken. Yet the deeper truth is that rest is not a future arrival but a present reality you have overlooked.

To remember this is to stop living as if you are perpetually on your way somewhere. The ground you are standing on has already been given to you. When you cease the endless reaching and become fully present where you are, you discover that the rest was here all along, waiting only for you to stop long enough to receive it.

Live Joshua 1:13 today

  1. Pick one thing you keep telling yourself you will enjoy later, the coffee, the walk, the chapter of the book. Do it today with nothing else running, no screen, no half attention.
  2. At dinner or on a call with someone, drop the part where you explain what you still have to get done. Just be with them for the length of the meal.
  3. Mid afternoon, when the list is pressing and you feel behind, stop for two minutes and do not fill them. Look out the window. The ground you are on is already yours.

What am I waiting to finish before I let myself be here?
