Joshua 10:6 Meaning The Men of Gibeon Sent to Joshua

The men of Gibeon sent to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, saying, “Don’t abandon your servants! Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us; for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill country have gathered together against us.”

What does Joshua 10:6 mean?

The ruling worrying thoughts of the lower mind mass together to retake the height of higher consciousness, and the part of a person already lifted toward that height sends down a cry for help. Fear breeds its own captains, and every anxious thought becomes a king gathering others of its kind against the calm that has just been won.

The ruling worrying thoughts of the lower mind mass together to retake the height of higher consciousness, and the part of a person already lifted toward that height sends down a cry for help. Fear breeds its own captains, and every anxious thought becomes a king gathering others of its kind against the calm that has just been won. The call goes out from the circle where the old flesh was already rolled away, back to the settled inner self that put it there. What happens in a person is plain: the moment the mind rises toward stillness, the accumulated habits of worry rally at once to pull it back down.

Gibeon: the height, higher consciousness in the head, now under siege by returning worry Gilgal: the circle where the reproach of the old flesh has been rolled away and left behind Kings of the Amorites: the ruling worrying thoughts of the lower mind, each anxious thought a captain gathering more Mountains: the higher realms of consciousness the worrying thoughts are trying to seize

Live Joshua 10:6 today

  1. Right after a good quiet moment, a walk without your phone, ten minutes of real calm, the worries usually come flooding in. Expect that and let it happen without reading it as proof the calm was fake.
  2. When the peace drains out of you, say so to one person instead of handling it alone. A text that says I am spiralling a bit is enough, and asking is not weakness.
  3. When the worries arrive in a group, the money one, the health one, the thing you said last week, do not try to answer all of them at once. Pick the one that is actually in front of you today and leave the others standing outside.

When calm starts to slip, do I reach for help, or do I try to hold the line alone?

Buddhism · Mara

The moment the meditator settles, the old tempter arrives with every doubt and distraction at once. The visit is treated as a sign of progress, not of failure.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

The mind returns again and again to the same troubles, and you must simply bring it back each time. The return of worry is expected, so it is not an emergency.

Sufism

As the heart begins to clear, the lower self grows loudest, because it feels what it is about to lose. Its noise is the measure of the ground that has been taken.
