Joshua 3:13 Meaning It Shall Be That When the Soles

It shall be that when the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of Yahweh, the Lord of all the earth, rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan will be cut off. The waters that come down from above shall stand in one heap.

What does Joshua 3:13 mean?

Some conditions in a life will not change until a person has already committed to living as though they had. A person who requires the river to move before they will move has built a closed loop: hesitation produces no evidence, no evidence justifies more hesitation, and the promise stays technically true and entirely unused for a lifetime.

Some conditions in a life will not change until a person has already committed to living as though they had.

A person who requires the river to move before they will move has built a closed loop: hesitation produces no evidence, no evidence justifies more hesitation, and the promise stays technically true and entirely unused for a lifetime.

Yahweh attached the parting to the soles, which puts the whole promise downstream of one movement. The men carrying the ark had no way to feel the word as true until water was at their ankles, and the body learns in that order every time. Waiting for conditions to change costs a person the single act that changes them.

Live Joshua 3:13 today

  1. Take the thing you have been waiting on conditions for and do the smallest real piece of it today, the email, the call, the first page. Not the plan. The piece.
  2. Tell one person what you are doing before you feel ready. Saying it to someone puts your feet in the water.
  3. When you catch yourself thinking "once this settles down, then I will," ask what you could do this week that does not need it to settle. Usually the settling was waiting on you.

What am I waiting for permission from, when the only thing that would change it is me moving?

The journey of a thousand miles starts under your foot. Not in the planning of it, under the foot.

Zen · the hundred-foot pole

The teacher asks how you step forward from the top of a hundred-foot pole. There is no answer you can work out first. You find out by stepping.

Bhagavad Gita 3

It is better to act imperfectly in your own path than to stand still waiting for certainty. Standing still is also a choice, and it produces nothing.
