Joshua 3:15 Meaning And When Those Who Bore the Ark

and when those who bore the ark had come to the Jordan, and the feet of the priests who bore the ark had dipped in the edge of the water (for the Jordan overflows all its banks all the time of harvest),

What does Joshua 3:15 mean?

Whatever a person insists on seeing before they move is usually the exact thing only their movement could produce. Certainty demanded up front sets a cautious state, caution keeps the feet out of the water, and the water stays exactly where it was, proof for one more year that crossing was impossible.

Whatever a person insists on seeing before they move is usually the exact thing only their movement could produce.

Certainty demanded up front sets a cautious state, caution keeps the feet out of the water, and the water stays exactly where it was, proof for one more year that crossing was impossible. Flood and harvest arrive in the same season, so whoever waits for the level to drop waits out the only window they had.

The ark moves at the speed of the men carrying it; God's presence does not clear the water before the soles commit. Which sets the order: the option of standing still gets cut off first, and dry ground second. Dry feet keep a person safe on a bank they will never leave.

Live Joshua 3:15 today

  1. Decide one thing today without the extra information you have been chasing. You will know more after you move than you could have known before.
  2. If you have been circling a hard conversation until the right moment, have it this week in an ordinary moment instead. The right moment was never going to show up.
  3. When the pressure is on and you want one more day to be sure, give yourself a short deadline, end of the morning, and then act. Safety on the bank is still a bank.

What proof am I waiting for, that only my own first step could ever give me?

Zen · Dogen

To study the way is to practice it. You do not understand first and then sit, you sit and the understanding comes with wet feet.

Tao Te Ching 64

A journey of a thousand miles begins beneath the foot. The step is not the result of the understanding, it is where the understanding starts.

Stoicism · Seneca

He wrote that while we wait for life we let it pass. The season you are holding out for is the one you are spending on the bank.
