Joshua 6:14 Meaning The Second Day They Marched Around

The second day they marched around the city once, and returned into the camp. They did this six days.

What does Joshua 6:14 mean?

Work that returns no feedback for six days gets abandoned by anyone who needs results to stay committed. Most effort runs on evidence: a person acts, sees movement, and the movement supplies the state that funds tomorrow's action.

Self-Help

Work that returns no feedback for six days gets abandoned by anyone who needs results to stay committed.

Most effort runs on evidence: a person acts, sees movement, and the movement supplies the state that funds tomorrow's action. Remove the evidence and that loop breaks, discouragement fills the gap, and the work stops one circuit short of the only day that pays.

A lap accomplishing nothing measurable is still the whole method when it is the lap that was commanded, and the certainty to walk it has to come from the one who gave the order rather than from the wall. Nothing about the sixth circuit looked different from the first, which is why collapse gets credited to the seventh day instead of to the six that manufactured it. A person who needs each repetition to justify itself trades a disproportionate result for the relief of stopping.

Live Joshua 6:14 today

  1. Pick the one quiet thing you have been doing with no visible return, the walk, the pages, the prayer, and do today's round without checking whether it is working yet.
  2. Tell one person what you are repeating and ask them to not ask you about progress for a while. Having a witness who does not keep score is lighter than having a cheerleader.
  3. When a stretch of work shows no movement and your hand reaches for your phone to find a quick win somewhere else, finish the lap first. Put the phone face down and complete the circuit you said you would walk.

What have you stopped one day short of, more than once?

Tao Te Ching

Water wears down stone not by force but by returning, and the work that looks like nothing is the work that finishes.

Zen

Sitting is not a method for getting somewhere. The student who demands a sign on day three has already left the practice, while the one who keeps sitting with no report finds the ground has shifted.

Do what is in front of you well, again, without asking the result to pay you for it. The reward of right action is the action.
