Jude 1:21 Meaning Keep Yourselves in God’s Love

Keep yourselves in God’s love, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.

What does Jude 1:21 mean?

To keep yourself in love is not to grip it or earn it. The instruction is to stay where you already are, in the ground of your own being, refusing to wander into the noise of past and future.

Ego v. Being

To keep yourself in love is not to grip it or earn it. The instruction is to stay where you already are, in the ground of your own being, refusing to wander into the noise of past and future. The mind keeps pulling away toward its grievances and its plans. When a person returns attention to this moment, the warmth is found to have been there all along.

Waiting for mercy sounds like standing at a locked door. What is meant is quieter. A readiness, an openness held through the days. Eternal life is not endless time added on later but the depth of Presence available now. Clock time thins, and something in a person that was never born tastes what it is.

Live Jude 1:21 today

  1. When you catch yourself scrolling through old arguments or rehearsing tomorrow, put the phone face down and feel your own breathing for ten seconds. Nothing has to change for you to be at home where you are.
  2. Spend five minutes with someone today without working on anything, not fixing, not planning the evening, just being in the room with them. The warmth is usually already there once you stop reaching past it.
  3. In a hard meeting or a long line that is not moving, let the waiting be the point instead of the obstacle. Keep your attention soft and open, and the pressure loosens on its own.

Where in today were you already fine, and busy looking elsewhere for it?

Tao Te Ching

The way is not somewhere you travel to. It is already under your feet, and you find it by stopping the search and settling into what is here.

Zen

The student asks where the great way is, and the teacher points at the ground. Nothing has to be added to this moment for it to be whole.

What you are looking for has been looking out through your own eyes the whole time. The seeking itself is what hides it.
