Ego v. Being

After great effort there comes a moment when you feel utterly emptied, when the striving mind has nothing left to give. Yet in that very depletion something can open. A hidden source you had walked past unnoticed releases its water, and life returns.

When his spirit came again and he revived, it was not from pushing harder. He stopped, drank from a source that was already there, and came back to life the moment he ceased straining and simply received what was given.

SUFISM

Sufism

The strong man has just won and is dying of thirst, and that is the trap of victory: the self swells until it forgets it was never its own source of strength. Only the cry that admits emptiness saves him, and the moment he stops boasting and asks, the ground opens.

The water was hidden in that hollow, waiting for the hard place to break. So the giver and the gift meet in a split rock, and the well keeps his cry for its name, because the one who called and the One who answered belong together there.

Live Judges 15:19 today

  1. When you hit the wall this afternoon, stop instead of pushing through on more caffeine. Ten quiet minutes with no screen gives back more than another hour of grinding.
  2. Let someone do the thing they offered to do for you, without the usual, I have got it. Receiving is a real part of being alive, not a failure of effort.
  3. When the pressure is highest and you feel emptied out, put the work down for three breaths and let your shoulders drop. What comes back is not something you manufactured.

Where today were you straining for something that was already being handed to you?

The way works by taking away, not adding. Keep subtracting until the doing happens without strain.

Zen

After the long effort comes the moment of letting go, and what you were pushing toward arrives on its own. The rest was never produced by force.
