What does Judges 16:5 mean?

Solar power lives in the body as long as it stays uncut and untold. The rulers of the sense-life cannot break the inner strength by force, so they work through the emotional nature to coax out its secret, because what the flesh cannot conquer directly it buys and flatters.

Solar power lives in the body as long as it stays uncut and untold. The rulers of the sense-life cannot break the inner strength by force, so they work through the emotional nature to coax out its secret, because what the flesh cannot conquer directly it buys and flatters. Strength hidden in the hair is the vital current rising through the head; once its source is named to the lower appetites and surrendered, the light is bound and set to grinding.

The payment reveals the game: sensation offers silver to the feeling nature to betray the spirit that dwells with it.

Philistines: the invading sense-appetites that camp inside a person and war against the inner light. Silver: the pull of the moon and the emotions, the currency by which desire purchases surrender.

Live Judges 16:5 today

  1. Keep one good thing you are doing entirely to yourself today. No post, no mention. Watch how strong the urge is to cash it in for a little attention.
  2. When someone flatters you into opening up more than you meant to, slow down. Warmth is not automatically trust, and you can be kind without handing over the key.
  3. When you are offered something for a small piece of yourself, the extra money, the easy approval, name the price out loud in your head before you accept. Most surrenders happen because nobody said the number.

What strength of yours have you been spending on applause?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching

The teaching is to keep your strength uncarved and unadvertised. What is named and displayed becomes something others can take hold of.

Sufism

The seekers were told to keep the inner state hidden, because the moment it is exposed to flattery and talked about, it leaks away.

Buddhism

The warning is that praise and gain are not neutral. They buy you quietly, and a mind sold that way will not know the moment it stopped being free.
