Judges 17:13 Meaning Then Micah Said

Then Micah said, “Now I know that Yahweh will do good to me, since I have a Levite as my priest.”

What does Judges 17:13 mean?

A man who can purchase his certainty will never ask whether the thing he purchased is real. Certainty is a need of the personality, and the personality will accept whatever vehicle quiets it fastest.

Self-Help

A man who can purchase his certainty will never ask whether the thing he purchased is real.

Certainty is a need of the personality, and the personality will accept whatever vehicle quiets it fastest. A credential bought with silver does the work: the belief that the arrangement is now secure sets a settled state, the settled state produces confidence, and confidence ends every further question. Yahweh becomes a return on an investment rather than someone to be known.

What it costs is growth. The needs of the spirit require a man to be changed by what he approaches, and a shrine built by his own hands asks nothing of him. When stronger men carry the whole arrangement away, he has nothing to fall back on, because he never built anything but the arrangement.

Live Judges 17:13 today

  1. Name one thing you feel sure about mostly because you paid for it, the course, the plan, the subscription, the title. Ask honestly today whether it has changed how you live or only how you feel.
  2. Ask someone who knows you well to tell you where you are fooling yourself. Then do not explain, do not qualify, just write down what they say and sit with it on the commute.
  3. When the easy reassurance comes, from a podcast, a verse on a feed, a confident voice in a meeting, hold the question open a little longer instead of closing it. Comfort that arrives that fast usually has not touched anything.

What certainty have you bought that has never once asked you to change?

To know and think you know is the sickness. Settled answers that cost nothing are the ones most worth suspecting.

Zen

A finger pointing at the moon is not the moon, and a shrine is not the holy. Mistaking the arrangement for the thing itself is the oldest error.
