Judges 6:15 Meaning He Said to Him

He said to him, “O Lord, how shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”

What does Judges 6:15 mean?

How quickly the mind protests its own smallness. I am the least, my family is poor, who am I to do anything of worth.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

How quickly the mind protests its own smallness. I am the least, my family is poor, who am I to do anything of worth. This endless measuring of yourself, whether as the greatest or the least, is the work of the ego, which can only see you as a small and separate form struggling alone.

But the power that moves through a life was never meant to come from that small self. When you stop identifying with the story of how little you are and become present, something greater than your person can act through you. Strength arrives the moment you step out of the mind's tale of inadequacy and let presence work through you.

SELF-HELP

Self-Help

A person will argue for their smallness with more energy than they will ever spend testing it.

Ask someone to do something large and they hand back an inventory: rank, resources, birth order, the receipts proving the job belongs to somebody else. That inventory is the identity defending itself, because behaviour that contradicts how a person defines themselves never survives long enough to become a habit.

Yahweh does not argue with the family arithmetic. He renames the man, and courage arrives in the only order it ever does: the new self-definition, then the state that matches it, then the action, then the proof. Anyone who keeps the old name while attempting the new work will quit early and call it realism.

Live Judges 6:15 today

  1. When you are alone and your mind starts listing your qualifications, or your lack of them, let the list run out and then feel your hands and your breath for ten seconds. That quiet is not nothing, it is where you actually live.
  2. The next time someone asks you for help and your first thought is that you are not the right person, say yes to one small concrete piece of it anyway. You will find the help comes through you, not from your resume.
  3. In a meeting or on a group call where you feel like the least qualified voice in the room, say the plain thing you see without any apology in front of it. Skip the "this is probably dumb, but" and just offer it.

What would you do today if you stopped waiting to feel big enough?

Tao Te Ching 11

The usefulness of a cup is in its emptiness, and the usefulness of a wheel is in the hollow at its center. What seems like nothing in you is exactly the space through which something can move.

Zen

A student kept asking the teacher what he lacked. The teacher answered that his searching was the only thing in the way, and that an empty bowl is already fit to be filled.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Your opinion of your own size is not a fact, it is a judgment you added. Set the judgment down and act with what is actually in your hands right now.
