Judges 6:20 Meaning The Angel of God Said to Him

The angel of God said to him, “Take the meat and the unleavened cakes, and lay them on this rock, and pour out the broth.” He did so.

What does Judges 6:20 mean?

The inner messenger directs a person to lay the substance of the body and its pure spirit-bread upon the firm foundation and let the liquid life pour out. Flesh is the material self, the unleavened cakes are unpuffed spirit free of the ferment of ego, and the rock is the steady ground of truth inside, the unmoving base on which an offering can rest.

Esoteric

The inner messenger directs a person to lay the substance of the body and its pure spirit-bread upon the firm foundation and let the liquid life pour out. Flesh is the material self, the unleavened cakes are unpuffed spirit free of the ferment of ego, and the rock is the steady ground of truth inside, the unmoving base on which an offering can rest. Pouring out the broth is the release of what was held in reserve, the emptying of the body's saved essence onto the foundation so it can meet the coming fire.

Setting flesh and bread on the rock and pouring the broth is the whole self placed on solid inner ground, given up so the higher power can act upon it.

Flesh: the material body and lower substance of a person, the raw self brought to the place of offering Unleavened cakes: pure spirit nourishment with no swelling of ego, bread kept free of the ferment of pride Rock: the firm, unmoving ground of truth inside a person, the steady foundation on which the offering is laid

  1. Find the thing you have been keeping half back from, the work, the apology, the commitment, and give it the rest of what you have today.
  2. With someone close, say the whole of the thing instead of the safe edited version. The reserved part is usually the part that mattered.
  3. When you are tempted to protect your energy by doing something at sixty percent, do it fully instead, once. Then let the result be whatever it is.

What are you still saving, and who were you saving it for?

The same truth in other traditions

Bhagavad Gita

The offering is made complete only when nothing is held back for yourself. What is poured out fully is what actually gets transformed.

Taoism

The cup is useful because it is empty. Keeping it full of your own reserves is what makes it useless.

Stoicism · Epictetus

He taught that you hold nothing in reserve against the way things are. You place what you are on solid ground and let what comes, come.
