A man who obeys while still afraid gets the courage afterward, as a result of having moved.

Fear does not have to leave before a person moves; it only has to be denied a vote. Darkness here removes the audience, and the audience is what would have talked him out of it by noon; acting in the dark while afraid is still acting.

Moving before daylight denies fear the hours it needs to build its argument. Morning found the thing already done, and a man who wakes into a completed act is not the same man who wakes into a pending one, which is why what Yahweh asked of him could keep escalating from an altar to an army. Waiting to feel brave first hands the decision to whoever arrives with the best reason to wait.

Live Judges 6:27 today

  1. Do the scary thing first thing, before the day gives fear any new material. Send the message, make the call, book the appointment while you are still too sleepy to talk yourself out of it.
  2. Ask one person to simply be with you while you do it, not to advise you. Someone sitting nearby while you make the call is different from a committee weighing in on whether you should.
  3. When you feel the pull to wait for a better moment, shrink the step until it is small enough to do right now. One sentence of the email, one knock on the door, one honest line in the conversation.

What would already be behind me if I had stopped waiting to feel ready?
