Lamentations 3:17 · World English Bible
You have removed my soul far away from peace. I forgot prosperity.
Domanassa: Mental pain Domanassa is the mind's own ache, distinct from anything the body reports. Being pushed far from peace is exactly this: the walls are down, the rod of wrath has fallen, and the hurt now lives behind the eyes where no bandage reaches.

BUDDHISM
Domanassa: Mental pain Domanassa is the mind's own ache, distinct from anything the body reports. Being pushed far from peace is exactly this: the walls are down, the rod of wrath has fallen, and the hurt now lives behind the eyes where no bandage reaches. Holding it as a feeling that has arisen, rather than as the whole of who you are, is the first inch of ground you get back.
Kamma-vipāka: The ripening of deeds Kamma-vipāka is the working out of what was set in motion earlier. A hand seems to have shoved the soul off from peace, and it feels like an enemy's, though what presses is the ripening of long-sown choices, a harvest coming in from seed scattered seasons ago. Reading it this way takes nothing from the pain and gives something back, since a harvest ends, and different sowing can begin from where you are sitting.
Vipariṇāma-dukkha: The pain of change This is the ache that arrives when something good changes into something else. Prosperity went out of reach before it went out of memory, the way a warm house you once lived in stops being picturable once the roof is off. Every pleasant thing carries this second face, and the sweeter the season was, the sharper its turning.
Sati: Recollection Sati is the mind keeping hold of what matters. "I forgot prosperity" describes that faculty failing under weight: grief crowds the room until nothing else can be called up. A few lines further on, this same power of recall turns everything, when one thing is deliberately brought back to mind and hope comes in behind it, which is worth noticing while the forgetting still feels total.
Santi: Peace Santi is stillness that stands without propping. Being far from peace assumes peace was sitting back there with the full storehouses and the safe streets, so that losing those lost it too. The stillness worth walking toward cannot be carried off by an invading army, and every step toward it is taken inwardly, wherever the body happens to be standing.
Buddhism lens
Where have you been looking for peace that could be taken away from you?
People look for quiet in the countryside or at the shore, when no retreat is as quiet as their own mind. You can step into it at any hour, from anywhere.
All things rise and churn and then settle back to their root, and stillness is that root. Return there and the turning of things stops being terror.
The one who is still at the center is untouched by what rises and falls around it. Nothing outside can carry off what was never stored outside.
