Leviticus 19:29 Meaning Don’t Profane Your Daughter

‘Don’t profane your daughter, to make her a prostitute; lest the land fall to prostitution, and the land become full of wickedness.

What does Leviticus 19:29 mean?

The daughter is the soul-force within a person, the tender feminine essence born of the inner life, and to prostitute her is to sell that fine energy out to the lower appetites for the cheap coin of sensation. When the pure feeling-nature is given over to the senses in this way, the whole body follows.

The daughter is the soul-force within a person, the tender feminine essence born of the inner life, and to prostitute her is to sell that fine energy out to the lower appetites for the cheap coin of sensation. When the pure feeling-nature is given over to the senses in this way, the whole body follows.

The land is the flesh itself, and when the inner daughter is degraded the entire body falls into disorder and fills with the confusion the verse calls wickedness. Selling the soul-force to appetite corrupts not one faculty but the whole living ground a person stands upon.

Live Leviticus 19:29 today

  1. Pick the one app that takes your softest attention for the thinnest return and move it off your home screen today. You are not punishing yourself, you are refusing to sell the good part of you for a few cheap minutes.
  2. Give one person your real attention for ten minutes with the screen face down, your kid, your partner, a friend on the phone. The warmth in you grows where you spend it and thins where you sell it.
  3. When you are tired and the pull toward something numbing is strong, feed yourself something real first, water, food, air outside, a walk around the block. The appetite was loud because the inner life was hungry, not because it wanted what it asked for.

Bhagavad Gita

When the senses drag the mind along, judgment goes with them, and the whole person is swept off like a boat in high wind. Hold the fine inner part steady and the body follows it instead.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

Guard the inner ruling part, because whatever you sell it to becomes your master. Cheap pleasures bought with it leave the whole life disordered.

Sufism · Rumi

Do not trade the pearl for a handful of shells. The tender thing inside you is worth more than every sensation offered for it.
