Leviticus 2:14 Meaning If You Offer a Meal Offering

‘If you offer a meal offering of first fruits to Yahweh, you shall offer for the meal offering of your first fruits fresh heads of grain parched with fire and crushed.

What does Leviticus 2:14 mean?

What is offered upward is the first and the best, not the surplus a man can spare without feeling it. Firstfruits means handing over the part he most wants to keep, the early yield that proves the harvest will come, before he knows how the rest will turn out.

What is offered upward is the first and the best, not the surplus a man can spare without feeling it. Firstfruits means handing over the part he most wants to keep, the early yield that proves the harvest will come, before he knows how the rest will turn out. That is the whole cost of it. To give from the top of the pile is to declare that the highest thing outranks a man's own security.

And the grain does not arrive ready. Beaten out of full ears and passed through fire, it is threshed and dried until what nourishes stands separated from the husk. Nothing worth presenting comes unrefined. A person becomes fit to offer only after he has been through the flail and the flame, stripped of what was empty in him. Bring what is first, and let it be tested before you bring it.

Live Leviticus 2:14 today

  1. Give the first hour of your day to the thing that matters most, before email and the feed get it. The best of the day, not the leftovers.
  2. When someone needs you and it is genuinely inconvenient, give them the good slot, not the scraps at the end. Be present for it rather than half there with a phone in your hand.
  3. In the week's hardest stretch, do not hide what the pressure is doing to you. Let it strip away the posturing, and keep showing up with whatever is left that is honest.

What am I giving from the top of the pile, and what am I only handing over because I would not miss it?

Bhagavad Gita 9

What is offered matters less than the spirit it comes in. Even a leaf or a little water, given with a whole heart, is received.

Sufism · Rumi

The grain must be ground and the bread must go through fire. Whatever in you is being broken is being made into something that can feed another person.

Stoicism · Seneca

Untested strength is only a rumor. Hardship is the fire that shows whether what you claim about yourself is real.
