Leviticus 20:7 Meaning Sanctify Yourselves Therefore

‘Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be holy; for I am Yahweh your God.

What does Leviticus 20:7 mean?

To sanctify yourself is not to become good enough by effort, adding one more improvement to the person you think you are. It is to step out of the endless doing and remember what you already are underneath the noise of thought.

Ego v. Being

To sanctify yourself is not to become good enough by effort, adding one more improvement to the person you think you are. It is to step out of the endless doing and remember what you already are underneath the noise of thought. Holiness and wholeness are the same word. When you are wholly present, undivided by the mind's commentary, the separation dissolves.

Be holy, be whole, because the deepest ground of your being and the source you call God are not two things. You do not reach this by striving. You arrive by becoming still, and in that stillness you recognize the presence that was never absent.

Live Leviticus 20:7 today

  1. Before you touch your phone in the morning, sit on the edge of the bed for one minute and just breathe. Nothing to fix, nothing to plan. You are not getting ready to be someone, you are already here.
  2. When you are with someone today, put the phone face down and out of reach for the length of the conversation. Being fully there with one person is the whole practice.
  3. In the middle of a packed afternoon, when the self-improvement voice starts listing what you still are not, let it talk and feel your feet on the floor instead. The voice is not you.

What would today feel like if I had nothing left to prove about myself?

Learning adds something every day. The way takes something away every day, until you arrive at doing nothing, and nothing is left undone.

You are already what you are searching for. Looking for it is like riding an ox while hunting everywhere for the ox.

You are not the one who must be purified. You are the awareness in which the whole idea of purification appears and passes.
