Leviticus 26:13 · World English Bible

Leviticus 26:13 Meaning I Am Yahweh Your God

I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that you should not be their slaves. I have broken the bars of your yoke, and made you walk upright.

What does Leviticus 26:13 mean?

You were a slave and did not know it. Bound not by chains of iron but by identification with the mind, by the endless weight of thought that bends a person low and calls that bending a life.

Ego v. Being

You were a slave and did not know it. Bound not by chains of iron but by identification with the mind, by the endless weight of thought that bends a person low and calls that bending a life. The yoke is heavy because you carry a self that was never real.

When that identification breaks, you stand upright for the first time. Not because your outer circumstances changed, but because the burden was the false self, and it has fallen away. This is all that freedom is: the weight that bent you was made of thought, and once it lifts there is nothing left to stoop under, so you walk straight.

Live Leviticus 26:13 today

  1. Catch the sentence your mind repeats about you, not good enough, always behind, too much. Say it out loud once and hear how it is just a sentence, not a fact.
  2. Tell one person something true about yourself today without shaping it for how it will land. The effort of managing your image is most of the weight.
  3. In the meeting where you usually shrink, sit up straight and say the one thing you actually think. The posture comes first and the freedom follows it.

What have I been carrying so long that I stopped feeling it as a weight?

The same truth in other traditions

Buddhism · Dhammapada

You are your own master. Nothing binds you but the mind, and nothing frees you but the mind.

Stoicism · Epictetus

No one is free who is not master of himself. The chains people complain about are mostly the ones they hold in their own hands.

Taoism · Zhuangzi

A man dreamed he was a butterfly and woke unsure which one he was. Hold your idea of yourself that lightly and the weight comes off.
