EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

Standing in the presence of God names the state of full wakefulness, resting in the awareness that is the source of all life. Not a faraway place. Pure attention, arising when thought grows quiet.

What comes out of that stillness, a message, an insight, a sudden knowing, carries the mark of good news, because it rises from Being rather than from the anxious mind. And none of it stays private. Whoever stands there is sent, entrusted with something meant for another person's hearing.

Live Luke 1:19 today

  1. Before you unlock your phone in the morning, sit on the edge of the bed for one quiet minute and just feel yourself being alive. Let whatever thought comes next arrive out of that quiet instead of out of the scroll.
  2. The next time someone close to you is talking, drop the reply you were forming and simply be there with them. See what you hear when you are not busy answering.
  3. When a stressful message lands and your chest tightens, put the phone face down and take three slow breaths before you write anything. Answer from the calm, not from the alarm.

What have I been calling guidance that was really just my own worry talking faster?

The same truth in other traditions

Chandogya Upanishad

The teaching points past every thought and image to the awareness that holds them, saying that the self dwelling in the heart is the same vastness that holds the sky. To stand there is to stand at the source itself.

Zen

The old instruction is to sit until the dust of thinking settles, because a still pond reflects the moon exactly as it is. What you then see clearly was never produced by you.

Sufism · Rumi

Rumi writes that silence is the language of God and everything else is poor translation. The truest word arrives in you when your own talking stops.
