MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

Mary is every soul, and her question is the honest bewilderment of one who is told she carries something she did not consciously plant. She knows not a man because no outer cause explains it. The conception is inward. Desire has entered awareness quietly, and the person bearing it cannot trace how, since imagination sires its children without her knowing the hour.

This is how every wish is conceived. It is superimposed on a person by her own imagining, felt before it is understood, and no help from outside is needed for it to grow. The child is the state she has accepted, waiting now to be made visible. She asks how such a thing can be while it is already begun in her. What a person carries in feeling comes to birth in fact, whether or not she saw the moment it took root.

  1. Think of something you want that you cannot explain wanting. Stop asking where it came from and simply let it be yours, unexplained.
  2. When a friend says something like "I don't know why this matters so much to me," don't help them reason it away. Let them keep it.
  3. In a meeting or a message thread where you are asked to justify an instinct, say what you sense and leave the gap where the proof would go. Not knowing how is not the same as being wrong.

What are you carrying that you could not trace back if someone asked?

Zen

You cannot find the mind by searching for it, because it is the thing doing the searching. The looker is what is looked for.

Tao Te Ching 14

Trace it back and you find no beginning. Follow it forward and you find no end. It works anyway, without ever explaining itself.

What you are seeking has been pulling at you from inside the whole time. The longing itself is the evidence of the thing.
